All About Eric

During the summer of 2016, Eric was brought to our attention having just turned the age of 6 years old.  He was rescued from being kept in a small garden shed in an extremely emaciated and virtually dying condition.

The founder of Hots decided to foster him in a heartbeat, as sadly his life threatening conditions suggested that he simply would not survive long.

He had a retained testicle, suspected Von Willebrand Disease (VWD) and Wobbler Syndrome (Cervical Spondylomyelopathy).  It was proven that he had previously received a broken rib and tail.  His body had large areas of horrific scar tissue with two extremely large nipples (a result of infections that had never been treated).  He was also partially sighted as a result of living in darkness most of his poor life.

With the skill, understanding and loving care of Hots Vets, combined with Eric’s attitude, true determination and positive spirit to live, we were truly delighted that he shone bright, fought hard and proved everybody totally wrong!

Following tests it was identified that Eric was slow to clot yet at an acceptable rate.  This result enabled him to be successfully castrated including the removal of his retained testicle and enlarged nipples.  To everyone’s surprise and much relief, his retained testicle was not cancerous!  His operation was skillfully executed using keyhole surgery with Greyhounds on standby for blood transfusions if required!  Unbelievably, the Wobbler symptoms turned out to be a bee sting!  It was a very long, stressful and anxious day for everyone.

Yes, Hots founder fell into that lovely group of “failed fosterers” and Eric became a permanent member to their Dobie loving family!

“Eric is a true miracle dog who mischievously wakes every morning with a smile on his face together with a toy in his mouth.  He’s the oldest puppy in town, a true delight to meet and know.  He has a comical way of talking to you and pure love shines through his eyes.

The day I met Eric I have never looked back - each and every day he teaches me something new and how to leave the past behind you, live for the moment and enjoy life!  There was instant love when I met him and I look forward immensely to many years of happiness together - enjoying it the Eric way - full of unconditional love and laughter!”
