Adoption FAQ

We are often asked some very common questions regarding our re-homing criteria and how the process works.  We hope that the FAQ below will answer your questions, however, if you can't find the answer you need please contact us to ask for more information.

Where do our dogs come from?
HOTS Dobermann Dog Rescue help dogs from both the UK and Europe.  They are rescued from individuals who are no longer able to care for them together with those that are abandoned or from shelters.

How do I meet a dog I’m interested in adopting?
Once we have received your adoption application form, a telephone interview will be held followed by a home check.  You are then encouraged to come and meet the dog you are interested in adopting.  All family members should meet and interact with the dog before the adoption is finalised to ensure the dog is compatible with everyone.

What if it doesn’t work out or I can no longer care for my adopted dog?
Both you and your new dog will need time to get better acquainted and adjust.  For some dogs, the transition is quick and easy, others may need more time and help from you to become a successful companion.  If you should determine you and your adopted dog are not compatible, or you can no longer care for your adopted dog, you will be required to return the dog to HOTS Dobermann Dog Rescue.

How do I apply to adopt?
You can apply to adopt a dog by filling an application form from the menu above.

Do you rehome to families with children?
Yes.  This is done on a case by case basis.  Many dogs have been rehomed into families with children.

Do you rehome to older people?
Yes.  We always make every effort to match the dog with the person.  Age is not a defining factor for rehoming our dogs.  We sometimes get older dogs who are looking for nothing more than a quiet place on your sofa and would suit an older person or someone with less mobility.

Do you rehome to full-time workers?
Yes.  Providing arrangements can be made to ensure that the dog is not left on their own for any great length of time.

Do we have to have a home check?
Yes.  All our adoptive families need to have a home check.

What is the home check about?
The home check is an opportunity for us to ensure that your home and family life is suitable for the dog you wish to adopt and also the chance for you to ask any questions you may have prior to adopting a dog.  Our aim is to have happy dogs and happy families.  Therefore, it is a wonderful way to get to know one another and ensure a perfect match.

Can I adopt a Hots Dog if I do not live in the UK?
No.  We only rehome our dogs within the UK.

Do you offer rescue backup for life?

Yes.  HOTS Dobermann Dog Rescue understand it is important to offer our adopting families support.  We promote responsible rescue and rehoming which includes rescue back up for life and we are always on the other end of the phone should you need advice, support or any other help to ensure everyone is happy and enjoying life together.  We prefer that families contact us when there are issues so that we can offer the correct support.
Should circumstances change for you and you are no longer able to keep your dog we will take him/her back to our facilities and rehome them for you.  It is part of the contract you sign with us and the dog will come back to HOTS Dobermann Dog Rescue.

Do we have any background on the dogs?
For a lot of our dogs, we have limited background.  We will, however, give you as much information as we have.

Are the dog's house trained?
There is a possibility that some of our dogs may not be fully house trained and will require some help.  They do however get the hang of it very quickly despite having sometimes never even been inside a home.

Dogs come from abroad, must they go through quarantine first?
There is no quarantine in the UK since January 2012.  However, the requirements are dogs must be vaccinated for rabies 21 days prior to entering the UK.  They must also be microchipped, have a valid European passport and been wormed 24 hours prior to entry to the UK.  We ensure that the above is adhered to before any of our dogs enter the country.
